Welcome!
I am Mustafa Kemal Emil, Lab Manager and Senior Research Associate at the Earth Sciences Remote Sensing Lab in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Western Michigan University. I specialize in satellite-based remote sensing and geospatial data science, with emphasis on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), InSAR time-series analysis, imaging spectroscopy, and machine learning.
My work focuses on land surface deformation, mineralogical characterization, groundwater resource assessment, and surface process dynamics, particularly in arid and semi-arid environments. I contribute to the scientific direction and technical execution of federally funded research projects and oversee end-to-end geospatial workflows, including data acquisition, preprocessing, analysis, and visualization.
I also design scalable processing pipelines and interactive web-based tools for high-throughput analysis and decision support. In parallel, I mentor graduate and undergraduate students and develop open-source software to expand the use of remote sensing technologies in Earth science applications.
